Delivery of this home was actually before the foundation was in place. This is a special kind of foundation called Superior Walls. It is a pre-cast concrete, installed in sections, insulated and ready for interior finishing. It can be created to be anything you need it to be, with window openings, door openings, as well as optional 'shelves' so that rock facing can be installed later.
This type of foundation offers a substantial savings in time and a full 15 year warranty against leakage, something conventional foundations don't offer.
One Couples Dream of an Old Farm House Style home with Wrap-around porches and lots of room, starts to take shape....
You can see this is a very massive home, a full two-stories high with a trussed roof, lots of windows, and a full basement.
Everything above the first floor 13 courses of logs is "standard" stick frame construction, with log siding on the exterior and 1 x 8 Pine for the interior walls. The framed sections of the main floor allow for more flexibility in design, without compromising log appearances. Rather than a bay window, we prefer to have a structural 'bumpout' which is more useful in 'extending the breakfast area here.
This area will be the Family Room, and will include a woodstove, recessed OUT of the room to enable full use of the entire room.
Superior Walls provided this additional support for the woodstove 'bump-out' which was necessary to provide adequate support for whatever the homeowners eventually chose to install here. Backfilling for this type of foundation can be done after the first floor system is in place. You can see the 'starter' course just below the first log and just above the foundation cap or first floor system, in this picture. Log skirting will be installed which will cover and protect this entire area.
This is the main entry before the porches have been installed. The black covered 'posts' are the concrete piers which have been installed for the porch supports.
The downstairs windows have been installed and work is progressing to get the roof on so work can continue on the interior without interference from Mother Nature. The logs are partially discolored and dirty due to the length of time it took to get this site underway after delivery of the logs. As you will see in the last pictures of this home, the logs clean up nicely before stain is applied.
It's a totally different perspective with the porches on, the second floor closed in, and all the windows and doors installed.
There is still plenty to do to finish this beautiful home, but essentially, the worst is over.
The main floor of this home boasts Kitchen, Dining, Living Room, Family Room, Mud Room, Pantry and Main Foyer with cathedral ceiling to second floor over stairway.
A few years have past, now.
The owners have obviously been busy. They hope you enjoy this quick walk through their little piece of heaven hidden away in the quiet country.
The Kitchen is large and spacious.
And the formal Dining area has plenty of space for the sometimes large family gatherings.
You can complete a circle on the main
floor, from grand foyer to Dining Area
to Kitchen to Den, through a connected formal Living Room and finally around to the Foyer again.
The Foyer is where at least one Christmas Tree awaits the many family and friends that grace this spacious home with their love of life!
And the Master Bedroom Suite
is one of space and charm
with lots of closet space and, of course, separate amenities.
This home is truly a tradition in the making... being handed down from one family to the next.
We hope you enjoyed coming inside
for a quick look!
