Various Valcour Islands
This home, completed in early 1999, was modified to fit on an existing foundation.   Spacious decking, and enclosed entry-mudroom area, only add to the 32 feet of great room, accented by two skylights in each ceiling.
Overall dimensions for this truly modified Valcour Island is 24' x 60', yet it's length is 'hidden' with the use of dormers and entrances.
The back side of this home boasts the master bedroom dormer with it's own private balcony.  There is also a master bath and plenty of closet space. Clever use of outside storage for wood allows easy access to the wood-burning stove inside.
Impressive Glu-Lam beam and plenty of open space create the perfect atmosphere for entertaining, which is what this homeowner was striving for.
The rear view of this home provides a better understanding of the use of dormers for the upstairs.  While the dormer on the right side provides full wall height for the master bath, the dormer on the left side was extended to the end of the building to enable the master bedroom to be completely open.
What you cannot see here is the lovely master bedroom balcony which is visible in the photo above..
About two years after construction of the exterior was completed, we received an invitation to come back and see how things have 'matured' at their home.
They were responsible for much of the interior finishing such as the counter tops and trims throughout the kitchen & baths.  They are proud of it, and rightly so.
This gives you a peak at the loft/Master bedroom area upstairs, and you start to realize the spaciousness of the great room.
The combination of woods and dry wall allow for a much brighter appearance.  Remember that wood will absorb light and it is important to maintain some 'reflective' power by using painted surfaces.
At the other end of this truly open great room, you find the hearth and more open room to enjoy this space.  With a mountain view and plenty of seclusion, it is no wonder that this weekend / summer home soon became the permenant residence, complete with horses, three dogs and a very tolerant kitty.
This Valcour Island was several years to completion...
It was added to several times!
This Valcour Island is over 70' in length and boasts two full stories behind the cathedral ceiling Living Room.  The wing to the right is for the Kitchen, and the screened porch to the left allows for all season outdoor enjoyment.
A recent addition allowed for a new bedroom in the back.
This separate "guest house" is more a play house - with a small inground swimming pool, hot tub, complete kitchen and additional sleeping quarters.
The state of the art dehumidifier allows for the warm water swimming poot and hot tub without any of the damage that can occur from condensation and steam.
And Yet Another... and another - It's a very popular model...
Both of these Valcours were made slightly larger - 28 x 40, instead of the standard 28 x 36.
The land was not plentiful on this lot, so additional fill needed to be brought it to allow for access from the road.  The wide stairs and deck, allow for easy access to the main entry into the living room area.  Log rails and balusters make a nice touch on this home.
This 2009 version of a home we often build multiple times each year, was perched on a steep grade - so steep that the septic system had to be taken down to the bottom of the hill!

There are few properties we can't work with - but septic systems are the first priority in rural areas such as this.
From the street side, you get a hint of the more formal entry being provided on the left, complete with bench for taking off boots and coats.
And just a hint of the interior - which was impeccably done by the owner.
The view is seasonal - but reflects the peaceful tranquility of the site all year long.  Wouldn't you like to call this home?

Or maybe this version of the same home, but with a breezeway to an attached two-car garage and covered porch off the dining room - kitchen side of the house?
Walk out basements allow for additional finished house space, also.
