A Little History!

      Since 1978,  J & G Log Homes has been providing quality log homes to over 500 homeowners in the surrounding area - and even out of state!  In the late 70's and early 80's, most of the homes we sold were self-built because financing was not readily available.  Today, most of our customers are looking for a 'ready to live in home.'   They don’t have the time to take on the task of self-building, though a few will take on some of the interior finish work so they still have a hand in building their home.

      J & G Log Homes, LLC, and now also, Northwoods Custom Homes, adapted over the years to meet the needs of our customers.  We realized the importance of being able to help our customers build quality homes that fit into their budgets.  While we no longer physically build the homes we sell, we can offer a list of qualified builders, electricians, plumbers, etc. who have worked with our many customers over the years.  We also make ourselves available to those customers who have chosen to build their own homes - or chose to be their own General Contractor.  It’s always been our goal to keep everyone up to date on all the best practices and products in the industry.  Whether or not you choose to build yourself, or with a builder of your choice, you will find us stopping by to see how you are progressing, and to offer our support.  Even the builders we have worked with for many years expect we will stop by to check on their progress.  It’s just another way we can make sure they continue to do the outstanding job we expect of them.

      Along with providing top quality materials, each of our homes will meet (or exceed) state building codes (including energy efficiency), but more importantly, your expectations.   We will work with you to design and finalize your plans for everything structural in your home, as well as many vendors for other items you might want for your home.  I can offer a jumpstart by developing floor plans in-house.  Once we get everything the way you’d like it, we can provide a more accurate price specifically for your ideas.  The turn-around time for a price quote is usually only a few days.  Then a deposit will start the process of getting your preliminary plans on paper so we can arrive at a final price based on any further changes you make.  As many sets of “Preliminary Plans” as necessary will be provided so that we have everything where and how you want it!  Final construction plans (including energy studies), along with a site plan for well and septic, are the last steps between you and the actual material ordering process. 

      We inspect and inventory log deliveries to ensure quality of materials.  I take lots of pictures.  After that, no matter who is building, we visit your site to monitor progress and remain available should any questions arise or for any support needed. If it’s a drafting/building concern that we can’t handle, support is no more than a phone call away. 

     Bottom line - we want you to be happy.   Whether it’s a small weekend cottage or a stunning estate, we understand it’s no small investment.
